Location: Oakwood Baptist Church, Chattanooga, TN
Reports to: Senior Pastor
Purpose
The Part-time Music Director/Worship Leader is responsible for recruiting, managing, and leading the volunteer worship team, and for planning and conducting worship services on Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights. This role supports the church’s mission by fostering a worshipful environment that glorifies God and prepares the congregation for His Word. As a part-time position, it is designed for a bi-vocational candidate who can balance this ministry with another profession.
Key Responsibilities
Spiritual and Ministry Requirements
Demonstrate a clear calling from God to serve in music ministry.
Exhibit a genuine passion for worship and a humble desire to lead the congregation into God’s presence.
Participate in other church ministries as time permits.
Worship Leading and Musical Duties
Lead worship services on Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights with excellence and engagement.
Recruit, train, and schedule volunteer musicians and vocalists for the worship team.
Select music that complements sermon themes and appeals to all generations, in collaboration with the pastoral team.
Conduct regular rehearsals to ensure the worship team is prepared.
Maintain musical proficiency (e.g., reading sheet music, chord charts, leading transitions).
Oversee the care and organization of musical instruments and sound equipment, with volunteer support as needed.
Administrative and Planning Tasks
Collaborate with the Senior Pastor and ministry leaders to plan worship services.
Manage worship team scheduling and communicate effectively with volunteers.
Prepare and distribute worship plans, music sheets, and lyric slides in a timely manner.
Ensure all technical elements (e.g., sound, lyrics display) are ready for services.
Attend regular planning meetings with the pastoral team.
Encourage and organize special music performances using church talent.
Time Commitment
This part-time position requires approximately 15-20 hours per week, including:
Leading worship on Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights.
Conducting worship team rehearsals.
Planning, administrative tasks, and volunteer coordination.
The schedule is structured to allow flexibility for candidates balancing this role with other professional commitments.
Qualifications
Strong musical skills (vocal and/or instrumental proficiency).
Experience leading worship and managing a worship team.
Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership abilities.
Ability to work collaboratively with pastoral staff and volunteers.

Twice a year the Hamilton County Baptist Association hosts a training program for those who wish to TEACH English as a second language. This training is online, with modules for you to work through, as you read through your required manual. Everyone can go at their own pace, just as long as it is finished within the allotted time frame. There will also be a REQUIRED 5-hour video conference lesson, on Zoom, at the end of the training period. Start and End dates of the online modules: August 9th through September 6th. There are two options for your required manual: a free digital download, or a printed manual, ranging from $9-13, depending on your ordering method. FILL OUT CONTACT US FORM BELOW! Second, Bailey Biddle will be in touch with you to ask some follow-up questions, and explain how to pay for the training. After paying, you will need send your confirmation number to Bailey. Once you have sent your confirmation number, Bailey Biddle will send you what you need to make an account with the North American Mission Board. This is required to access the Pathwright site for your modules. Then, Bailey Biddle will give you information on how to get your Manual, required for this training: Finally, after being contacting by the instructor for the course, you will be given access to your online modules. This will happen one week out from the first day of training.

ZMTI 101: Biblical Interpretation

Time: Tuesdays at 6pm Dates: August 19th - October 7th
Description: In this class, instruction will be given in the various tools available today for interpreting the Scriptures and the critical role of the Holy Spirit. Students will learn how to interpret the Scriptures regarding the languages of the Bible, the context in which it was written, and how the various genres affect interpretation.
