Executive Board Meeting Minutes from January 14th, 2008

Richard Jones, Moderator, opened the January meeting of the Executive Board at Wally’s restaurant for an evening meeting. Stan Braley, Vice-Moderator, gave the devotion on Songs from Psalms 40 and other songs were voiced by the group.

The minutes of the three November meetings of the Executive Board were reviewed and stood approved.

Sybil Jacks, WMU Director, reported that December was the focus for foreign missions and Lottie Moon offerings for the individual churches and many churches surpassed their goals. March for Meals will be a HaCoBA food drive sponsored by the WMU.

Richard Blalock, Treasurer, presented the quarterly report. The report was approved as presented.

R. C. Thornbury, volunteer Director for HaCoBACare Ministries, explained that HaCoBA has an email newsletter. He will send it to all who want it. R C said they are always looking for volunteers for various duties. Their service is for 25 – 35 families daily Tuesday through Friday each week. The volunteers have a good time together. USDA has cut allotments and one shortage was peanut butter.

Steve Roper, Collegiate Ministries Specialist, introduced David Hixson as intern who wrote and spoke to the report. Bill Mason is his uncle, Steve Hixson is his dad. David reported that he had worked with Habitat to clear out new land for grant approval. A judge spoke to their meetings recently, a staff minister of Concord spoke twice -Aaron Martin for the BCM students, Steve Roper explained Advent to the Thursday evening study group.

Becky Witt, Administrator of Financial and Language Ministries, gave literacy and administrative reports. Becky also announced training for tax and financial persons coming on February 19.

David Myers, Director of Missions, reported on the research he and Becky Witt had collected about the history and purpose of the Camp Fund. The uses of the fund were defined to see if the trust balance had to be maintained. The report was included in the Executive Board Report.
He also explained the study that this meeting is helping test concerning the where and when of future Executive Board. meetings. Dr. Myers announced the upcoming seminar on “How to Plan a Mission Trip” offered Feb 12th at 6:30; and the Disaster Relief intro on Feb. 25th for persons’ first requirement for other training offered later. Recertification is required every three years if one is not involved in DR projects actively. Doyle Pittman had a written report that was referred to by David Myers.
The PowerPoint overview of the work of the HCBA was presented with questions fielded by Dr. Myers.

David Martin, Webmaster, used PowerPoint to present the Website he develops for HCBA . He explained all of the functions of the site. He explained the church of the week and the maps available to all churches. The calendar for 2008 is on the site. He explained what is available for research. Current info will be on the home page. The administrator corner has info on job descriptions and samples you can use to design your own. Opportunities will be available for various areas on the channels within the website.

Handouts were distributed along with descriptions of ministries listed on the two presentations shown on screens and by the use of two exhibits.

No old business or new business was presented. Steve Highlander moved that we adjourn and Stan Braley seconded. Several pastors were able to attend because of the evening meeting rather than the daytime meeting.
